Day 4 (Down syndrome Awareness Month): For the next couple of days, I want to talk about quality of life. I'll start with the effect Down syndrome can have on marriage. One might assume that the divorce rate among couples raising a child with Down syndrome is higher than if they're raising children without Down syndrome. This is a MYTH. In fact, according to a study done by the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center of more than 370,000 families, the divorce rate of couples with a child with Down syndrome was 3.2% LOWER than those families who did not have a child with disability.
